Instructions for authors

1. The submission stage

Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts electronically through the web (Inquiry System) at: https://ita.nestor-edp.org
Global resulting Postscript or PDF files of articles are preferred. They should however be carefully tested for printing and compressed before submission.
English is highly recommended. French is also accepted. Articles written in French must include an English translation of the title, the abstract and all figure and table captions.

A macro package in LaTeX2e, designed especially for RAIRO-ITA is available here (Compressed in ZIP format).

Title: The title of your manuscript should be concise, specific and relevant. It should identify if the study reports trial data, or is a systematic review, meta-analysis or replication study. Please do not include abbreviated or short forms of the title, such as a running title or head.

Authors List and Affiliations: Authors' full first and last names must be provided. The initials of any middle names can be added. The format for affiliations: complete address information including city, and country. At least one author should be designated as the corresponding author, and their email address and other details included at the end of the affiliation section. After acceptance, updates to author names or affiliations may not be permitted. Equal Contributions: authors who have contributed equally should be marked with a superscript letter (to their names). The letter must be in footnote, and the following statement added: “These authors contributed equally to this work”. The equal roles of authors should also be adequately disclosed in the author contribution statement. Please read the Ethical Standards.

Abstract and Mathematics Subject Classification: The abstract should be a total of about 300 words maximum, describe the main objective(s) of the study, explain how the study was done, including any model organisms used, without methodological detail, summarize the most important results and their significance. Abstracts should not include citations and abbreviations. Mathematics Subject Classification scheme: Each manuscript must be assigned indexing codes. MSC numbers, developed jointly by the American Mathematical Society and Zentralblatt, may be found at the URL's: http://www.ams.org/msc/ and http://www.emis.de/msc2000.html. Keywords are also required.

Introduction: The introduction should briefly place the study in a broad context and highlight why it is important. It should define the purpose of the work and its significance, including specific hypotheses being tested. The current state of the research field should be reviewed carefully and key publications cited. Please highlight controversial and diverging hypotheses when necessary. Finally, briefly mention the main aim of the work and highlight the main conclusions.

Main body: Equations, Lemma, Theorem… are numbered with the section: for example, equation 3 of Section 1, is equation (1.3). Check displayed equations carefully, making sure they are well-broken and well-aligned.

Conclusion: This section is not mandatory but can be added to the manuscript if the discussion is unusually long or complex.

Acknowledgments: In this section you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the author contribution or funding sections. This may include administrative and technical support, or donations in kind (e.g., materials used for experiments).

Funding: All sources of funding of the study should be disclosed. Clearly indicate grants that you have received in support of your research work and if you received funds to cover publication costs. Please add: “This research received no external funding” or “This research was funded by [name of funder] grant number [xxx]” and/or “The APC was funded by [XXX]” in this section. Check carefully that the details given are accurate and use the standard spelling of funding agency names at https://search.crossref.org/funding, any errors may affect your future funding.

Conflicts of Interest: This section, which is mandatory, shall describe whether yes or no, each individual author has to disclose any kind of conflict of interest (Disclosure Statement).

Depending on the type of conflict, the following sentences are recommended to be added for each author (please use the authors’ initials here):

  • For author AA receiving directly research funding please state: "AA has received funding from" and note the source.
  • In case BB’s institution received any sort of support, state: "The institution of BB has received funding from…" and note the source.
  • If CC received no financial support please state, "CC certifies that he or she has no financial conflicts of interest (eg., consultancies, stock ownership, equity interest, patent/licensing arrangements, etc.) in connection with this article."
  • If DD has received or may receive any personal payment or other benefit from a commercial entity (eg, serve as a consultant), please note: "DD has or may receive payments or benefits from … (note the source) related to this work."
If authors have no conflicts of interest, make this clear by stating ‘The authors have nothing to disclose’.

Data availability statement: In this section, please provide, if your study reports data, details regarding where data supporting reported results can be found. If legally and ethically possible, authors should indicate whether or not their manuscript has associated data and where positive (and appropriate), if the data has been deposited in a data repository [whose location should be disclosed here]. Alternatively authors could write: This article has no associated data generated and/or analyzed / Data associated with this article cannot be disclosed due to legal/ethical/other reason.

Author contribution statement: We expect that all authors will have reviewed, discussed, and agreed to their individual contributions ahead of this time. Contributions will be published before the references section, and they should accurately reflect contributions to the work. The following statements should be used "Conceptualization, X.X. and Y.Y.; Methodology, X.X.; Software, X.X.; Validation, X.X., Y.Y. and Z.Z.; Formal Analysis, X.X.; Investigation, X.X.; Resources, X.X.; Data Curation, X.X.; Writing – Original Draft Preparation, X.X.; Writing – Review & Editing, X.X.; Visualization, X.X.; Supervision, X.X.; Project Administration, X.X.; Funding Acquisition, Y.Y.”.

References: References should be cited numerically in the text (for example, [1], [2,5,7], [8-10]). All references must be labelled. Items in the bibliography are ordered alphabetically by authors. For journal names, follow the "Abbreviations of Names of Serials" reviewed in Mathematical reviews (Mathematical Reviews Annual Index, American Mathematical Society). Electronic-only material

Electronic-only material is designed to provide supplementary information that is either too voluminous for printing or that is designed specifically for the Web, such as illustration in colour. Electronic-only material may include but is not restricted to:

  • (Large) tables
  • Appendices
  • Programmes
  • Images

For more information on the submission of this material (file requirements, etc.), please contact us.

2. The acceptance stage

Once accepted by the editor who received the manuscript, the Editorial Office will send an acceptance letter to the corresponding author. In order to accelerate the publishing process, the authors are encouraged to send all pieces of the manuscript available in electronic form (TeX, LaTeX, Figures in eps) to the Editorial Office.

If authors cannot provide an electronic file of their text, they must advise the production department as soon as they receive the acceptance letter, to avoid any delay in the beginning of the production process.

3. The galley proof correction stage

A proofs in PDF format will be sent to the corresponding author. They should be carefully corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 h of reception.

Corrections of the proofs by the authors should be unambiguous.. The TeX and LaTeX files possibly sent by the authors at the acceptance stage, might be modified by the production department to follow general presentation rules of the journal. So the main purpose of proof reading is to correct errors that may have occurred during the production process but is not to modify the content of the paper. The reproduction of artwork, the layout of the pages and equation breakings introduced by the production staff should carefully be checked. Corrections that might lead to a change in the page layout should be avoided.

The galley proofs, once corrected, should be signed and returned to the publisher within 3 days after reception.

4. Style guide

Figures

Each figure should be cited in the text. Good-quality figures have the following characteristics:

  • They should be produced with a good quality laser printer and have lines, letters, numbers and symbols of uniform strength and contrast.
  • Authors should avoid including any unnecessary text around a figure, such as captions, figure numbers, author or file names. These indications should be handwritten on the back or at the bottom of the original figures.
  • Parts of diagrams, graphs, ... should be clearly indicated by different types of hatching. Grey scales, which might get difficult to distinguish after reducing, or which often disappear during the printing process, should be avoided. Also, parts a, b, c, etc. of a figure should be in separate files.

In the paper version of the journal, figures are in black and white (for color, authors should make a contribution, prices on request), but they appear in colour in the electronic version.

5. Publication Charges

There are no charges to publish in the journal.

6. ORCID

From October 2024, only authenticated ORCIDs will be published in this journal. Any ORCIDs included in the manuscript files or provided outside of the authentication process outlined below will not be included in the published article.

Corresponding authors can link their own ORCID to their profile at the time of submission. They should also enter their co-authors details (names and email addresses) in the system at this time. Co-authors listed this way will be automatically invited to confirm that they are co-authors of the manuscript, and to validate their ORCID. This must be done before article acceptance. See also EDP Sciences ORCID policy.
